Privacy Notice

Your books are yours. Nobody else — no other writer, no advertiser, no buyer — sees what you write here. We don't sell personal information and we don't run ads. You can take everything with you or delete all of it, whenever you want, without asking us.

The one thing that leaves your account is the text you send to the writing coach, which goes to an AI provider so it can answer you. That's covered in detail below.

Write Club is operated by Jenny Dobson (sole operator), based in Colorado, United States. That means Jenny Dobson decides what is collected and why, and is the person to contact about it: PLACEHOLDER@example.com.

• Your account. Email address, and a password or a Google sign-in.
• What you write. Books, chapters, entries, captures, timelines, character notes, to-dos, chat with the coach — the whole working record. You choose every word of this; we don't scrape anything.
• What you upload. Images and screenshots you put in the scrapbook, including whatever metadata the file already carried.
• How you work. Timestamps of activity, session length and rough patterns — used to adapt the coach's pacing to you. No keystroke logging.
• Basic technical data. Device type, browser, and error reports when something breaks.

We do not collect location beyond the country and region you tell us, and we don't buy data about you from anyone.

This app is built for writers working on hard material. What you write here is likely to include things the law treats as sensitive: health and mental health, sexual life, allegations of crime, religious or political belief, and detailed information about real people who never signed up for anything.

We handle that material on the basis of your explicit consent, given when you set up your account. You can withdraw it by deleting the material or your account, and withdrawing is as easy as giving it. We never use it for anything other than running the app for you.

If you write about other people, you decide what to record and you are responsible for what you later publish. We don't verify it, share it, or use it to build a profile of anyone.

• To run the app: store your work, sync it, search it, show it back to you.
• To make the coach useful: your text is sent to an AI provider to generate a reply, and turned into a numeric index so you can search your own material by meaning.
• To keep the service working and secure: diagnosing errors, preventing abuse.
• To contact you about your account. Not marketing, unless you ask for it.

Where the law requires a legal basis: performing our contract with you for the core service, your explicit consent for sensitive material and for anonymous cross-writer learning, and our legitimate interest in keeping the app secure and working.

The coach is software, not a person. When you send it a message, the text of that message and relevant parts of your book are sent to Google's Gemini models through the Lovable AI Gateway, which returns a reply. The same happens when material is indexed for search.

We do not grant anyone permission to train AI models on your writing, and we do not sell or license it. The coach makes mistakes; it is not a therapist, lawyer, doctor or fact-checker, and nothing it says is professional advice.

No decision with a legal or similarly significant effect on you is made automatically.

Write Club gets better at coaching by noticing patterns across writers — that a certain kind of question tends to unstick people, for example. Where this is switched on, only de-identified craft patterns are used: the shape of a working rhythm, which prompt types worked, whether a stall was fear or a structural problem.

Your prose, your captures, your characters, your uploads and anything about real people are never included, and nothing that could identify you or your book crosses between accounts.

In the EEA, UK, Canada and US states with a comprehensive privacy law, this is off unless you turn it on. Everywhere else it is on by default with a switch to leave, on your data page. Either way it is one switch, and turning it off takes effect immediately.

Only the service providers we need to run the app. They act on our instructions and may not use your material for their own purposes.

• Lovable (hosting and database) — Runs the application and stores your books, entries and uploads. (United States / EU)
• Supabase — Database, authentication and file storage underlying the above. (United States / EU)
• Google (Gemini models, via the Lovable AI Gateway) — Processes the text you send to the writing coach, and generates the numeric index that powers search across your own material. (United States)

We will disclose material to law enforcement only where we are legally required to, and we will tell you unless we are legally prohibited from doing so.

Data may be processed in the United States. For transfers out of the EEA or UK we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, entered into with the providers above.

• Your work: for as long as your account exists. We never auto-purge a writer's material.
• Deleted items: they go to the Recycle bin and stay recoverable for 90 days, then they're gone.
• Your account: delete it and your books, entries, uploads and chat history are removed within 30 days, including from backups on their normal rotation.
• Error logs: up to 12 months.

Everyone who uses Write Club gets the same core controls, regardless of where they live: export everything, delete anything, and switch off cross-writer learning. They're on your data page inside the app, and they work without emailing anyone.

Depending on where you live you may also have the right to correct inaccurate data, object to or restrict processing, withdraw consent, appeal a refusal, and complain to your data protection authority or attorney general. We answer requests within 30 days.

We never charge for a request and we never make the app worse for you because you made one.

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our hosting provider, access is restricted to the operator, and each writer's rows are isolated at the database level so one account cannot read another's.

No claim of certification is made here — Write Club is not SOC 2 or ISO certified, and saying otherwise would be untrue. If a breach affects your material we will tell you and the relevant regulator without undue delay.

Write Club is for adults: you must be 18 or older. The subject matter people bring here is not appropriate for children, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete it.

If we change anything that matters, we'll tell you in the app and ask you to accept the new version before you carry on. We won't quietly start using your material in a new way.
